A Windy Engagement Session with Shelby & Michael at Hubert Family Farms

This Huntsville engagement photographer is thrilled to share the story of a recent LGBTQIA+ engagement session with two of my absolute favorite clients, Shelby and Michael. These two have been with me through thick and thin – from their enchanting couples session at Huntsville Botanical Gardens to the cozy, festive Christmas mini session in their Montgomery home, complete with their adorable fur babies, Catsby and Baxter.

This time, we ventured to the beautiful tulip farm at Hubert Family Farms in New Market, AL. If you haven’t been to Hubert Family Farms, let me tell you, it’s a dream! This family-owned gem is known for its vibrant tulip fields that make for the most picturesque backdrops. Picture rolling fields of color, each tulip standing tall and proud, just waiting for the perfect photo op.

THE DAY OF THE SESSION

March 16, 2024, was one of the first warm days of spring, but don’t let that fool you. The wind was on a mission! It was biting and unrelenting, which made for a fun, yet challenging, photo shoot. We spent a lot of time fixing Shelby and Michael's hair and clothes, battling the whims of Mother Nature. The lighting was another adventure in itself, with the sun playing hide and seek behind the clouds, creating a dance of shade and direct sunlight. As a Huntsville engagement photographer, this is something I've grown quite accustomed to with the city's sometimes bipolar weather.

Despite these challenges, Shelby and Michael were absolute troopers. They’ve known me long enough to roll with the punches, and we had a blast! My job was to keep them comfortable and at ease, and let’s be honest, a little wind never hurt anyone. Plus, it gave us some fabulous, windswept hair moments that looked straight out of a magazine.

One of the reasons Shelby and Michael keep coming back to me (besides my undeniable charm) is my ability to capture moments beautifully and my true-to-life editing style. As their Huntsville engagement photographer, I made sure to sprinkle in plenty of compliments to let them know just how fabulous they were doing. Whether they were striking a pose or sharing a candid laugh, I was there to guide them with a mix of pose suggestions and candid shots.

As lifelong friends, these sessions are always more than just work for me. They’re an opportunity to create and capture memories for people I genuinely care about. Shelby and Michael’s love for each other is palpable, and being able to document their journey is an absolute pleasure. From our first ever couples session together, to their yuletide mini session, to their spring tulip engagement session, I am honored to be the one Shelby and Michael trust to capture their memories.

Testimonials

Jacquelyn really put me at ease as she snapped candid photos and suggested a variety of poses— making a great mix of photos! I loved the way that she gave us suggestions for different poses— I never felt as thought we were forced into a mold she created— she adapted to us and to what felt right for us. Jacquelyn wowed me with her attention to detail and unwavering commitment to making the experience memorable and unique to our needs. Choosing her again a no-brainer for me.
